Along with many natural attractions offered in the state, Florida’s horse farms are some of the best in the country.
With beautiful and large pastures available, many equestrians are drawn to the Sunshine State.

What should you add to your Florida horse farm search?

If you’re on the hunt for horse farms, there are a few things to keep in mind to help make sure you get an ideal
piece of land. First, be aware of zones close to water such as swamps or areas prone to flooding. Sitting water can
bring in critters such as snakes and mosquitoes, spelling trouble for your horses.

Make sure foliage growing in the area is safe for your horses and the land is suitable for building shelters for your
animals.

How much land is needed for a horse farm?

Florida is home to many cities such as Lake City and Ocala, which showcase bountiful land, perfect to start up a
horse farm. As you compare different plots of land for sale, pay attention to the number of acres it has.

As an industry standard, 2 grown horses need about 5 acres of land to move around comfortably. Considering the number
of horses you have, you can get a better gauge of the amount of and you’ll need.

Assembly requirements

If you’re moving your horses within Florida, it’s required for each animal to have a negative equine infectious
anemia test, taken no longer than 12 months prior. If you’re moving foals under the age of 6 months, along with
their dam who has already tested negative, are exempt from the equine infectious anemia test requirement.

Owning a horse farm is hard work and takes much preparation. Consider hiring a real estate agent specializing in
horse farms to help guide you to the pasture of your dreams.
